The Devon Chamber of Commerce announced the winners of the 2019 Business Excellence Awards in a virtual ceremony on Mar. 16.
After the anticipated annual awards ceremony was cancelled last year due to the pandemic, the Devon Chamber of Commerce honoured its nominees and winners of this year’s Business Excellence Awards in an online ceremony.
Local businesses HomeRoom Diner and Cakelicious also supplied a Party-in-a-box food and drink take home kit for attendees to keep the festive atmosphere.
This year, the Devon Chamber recognized the Large Business of the Year, the Entrepreneur of the Year, the Small Business of the Year and the Employee of the Year.
Kathy Bennet, from Devon IGA was named the Employee of the Year in Devon.
Hot Rod Directional Boring was named the Business of the Year, and the award was presented to Jerrit and Jamie Zimmer. The company is celebrating its 10th year in business this March.
“We wouldn’t have got to where we are without our employees. The biggest thing we have is a great bunch of employees that have got us to where we are after 10 years,” said Jerrit Zimmer. “And my wife, Jamie, for all she does for the company.”
Alyssa Deans of Fur-Ever Friends Grooming was awarded the Entrepreneur of the Year award.
“For me, as being a first-year in business in 2019 … for people to think of nominating me was amazing, so thank you,” Deans commented.
CW Canine Consulting was named the Small Business of the Year award.
“It’s an honour to be nominated … there’s a lot of great businesses each year,” said Christine Wales, owner of CW. “It’s definitely been a little bit challenging this year, but the CW family is amazing.”
Lisa Guse, executive director of the Devon Chamber of Commerce, extended a thank you to all of the sponsors of the Business Excellence Awards, the many individuals who sent in nominations for a favourite business or employee and to the local businesses who helped make the virtual awards ceremony such a success.
