Local Youth Experience is doing its part to help Devon’s teens keep their spirits up during the pandemic.

Local Youth Experience has put together at-home care packages for local youth and plans to drop them off for Local members.

“We really want to show the youth that they have a whole community that cares about them,” said Kathleen Connor, director of Local Youth Experience. “Right now, the youth are going through a crazy, historical time.”

With everyone struggling, and youth especially dealing with elevated levels of depression, anxiety and social isolation, Connor said it was important for Local to show support and help Devon’s teens improve their mental health through all the changes brought by the pandemic.

Local is also reaching out to local businesses, Connor added, for donations and support. The care packages are focused on self-care items and small treats. They also contain information on youth programming offered by Local and the town that teens can participate in virtually.

Local delivered its first round of care packages last month and has already received some positive feedback.

“It’s a pretty simple package … but it made them feel happy and special, I think,” Connor said.

Teens can reach out to Local through its website or social media. Local continues to offer weekly virtual programming for all Devon youth to enjoy.

“We just want them to feel connected and cared for.”
