Awards of Excellence: Nominate outstanding achievements and contributions

Article content

Great things are happening in our community and with the COVID-19 pandemic, many have gone above and beyond to help their fellow residents.

Community members, organizations and businesses have given back through acts of kindness such as handing out free food and masks, grocery delivery, shovelling sidewalks and more — all demonstrating excellence within Strathcona County.

These individuals and groups make Strathcona County a great place to be, and they dedicate their time and talents to making a positive difference in the lives of residents.

We invite you to show your appreciation and help us salute these remarkable people by nominating them for a Strathcona County Award of Excellence. The deadline to nominate is March 29, 2021.

It is a long-standing county tradition to present these awards each year to recognize citizens for their outstanding achievements and contributions. The 2021 Award of Excellence recipients will be celebrated at a virtual ceremony in June.

So, what does “outstanding” look like? It might be someone who has helped their community during the pandemic, who gives back through volunteering or humanitarian efforts, innovates and diversifies in business, shows agricultural leadership, or improves the quality of life for seniors. Or maybe it’s an individual whose artistic talents enrich our cultural scene.

These are only a few ways people are making important contributions to our community. Award recipients may be recognized in eight categories:

  • Agricultural Leadership
  • Arts, Culture and Heritage
  • Community Service
  • Economic Diversification
  • Heroism and Leadership
  • Outstanding Group
  • Service to Seniors
  • Youth

Any current resident of Strathcona County is eligible to be nominated. Overall, the individual or group will have demonstrated exceptional effort, dedication, initiative, creativity or leadership. Their actions will have enhanced the quality and well-being of our community, or even brought recognition to the county.

Recipients may be honoured for a single achievement or contribution, or those occurring over an extended period of time.

For more details about the award categories and to nominate, visit or call 780-410-6595.

Complete the online nomination form and submit it by email, mail or in person at the Strathcona County Community Centre (info desk) by March 29. Nomination forms are also available for pick up at the Community Centre.

Watch for the list of recipients announced in May and join us for the award ceremony in June.
